So I know that Christian radio has a fetish for Chris Tomlin music and whenever he has new music it is constantly played- over and over. But even though I know that is true, I have found it ironic that 5 out of the last 6 times I’ve been in my car, Tomlin’s new song I Will Follow is played. The end of a season tends to be a time for me to look back and look forward, and the end of this Upward Flag Football season has been no exception.
Looking back, God has done amazing things. This has been one of the best seasons and most challenging, all in one. Every year, God teaches me more about being in relationship with people and about being a leader and just life in general. And I am thankful for that. But the end of one season means the beginning of a new one. That is when I begin to look forward.
Looking forward always causes me to evaluate. As I move into the next season, I wonder what it is God is calling me to remember and take with me. I wonder what it is that I am to leave in the last season.
This is where Tomlin’s song comes into play. As I have been doing this introspective thing, the lyrics of this particular song jump out at me. It has been a reminder of my commitment to God that “Where You go, I’ll go. Where You stay, I’ll stay. When You move, I’ll move… I will follow You.”
I don’t know all that the next season holds- I can plan and prepare as best as possible. But the reality is that I don’t know. But I do know the One who promises to be there with me. During the transition between seasons, I am reminded that “All Your ways are good, All Your ways are sure.”
So into the next season I go. With renewed confidence that it is God who leads, and as long as I follow, it is going to be another great season!
